British College Of Osteopathic Medicine Case Study
Overview
The British College of Osteopathic Medicine was in the process of renaming and rebranding when it contacted Harlequin Solutions. This coincided with a restructuring of the course syllabus. BCOM wanted to redesign and upgrade their website to better reflect their position as the UK's leading and most innovative college for osteopathic education.
The main aim was the creation of two new sites, College and Clinic and an additional Extranet site.
The Brief
The aim of the College site was to attract new students by encouraging them to request the prospectus - BCOM's most powerful marketing tool. BCOM were also looking to project a vibrant, sociable learning environment, with plenty of channels for potential students to make contact with college staff.
The Clinic site was looking to promote the treatment and therapy side of the college to potential patients. This site would be looking to project the experience and expertise available to visitors and the college's reputation as the UK's leading Osteopathic treatment and learning centre. Both new sites needed to have a "wow" factor as well as being both sleek and elegant. Both sites also needed to include intuitive, consistent and transparent navigation. The design needed to conform to the new BCOM corporate identity as well as being able to work well within the existing IT infrastructure.
BCOM also wanted to create an Extranet to provide course and administrative information to both students and staff. It was a requirement that users would be able to login to the system using a password where they would find general notices and notices specific to their courses. In addition course timetables and the student handbook would be available.
An important requirement for the College, Clinic and Extranet sites was that they should be easily maintained, without recourse to third parties, by users with good computer skills but no html skills.
